This week, three korean drama led by three K-Pop idols Lee Seung Gi, Kim Hyun Joong and Micky Yoochun. The dramas had airing since 1st September and still waiting the ratings progress.
Kim Hyun Joong’s Playful Kiss will be head to head with Lee Seung Gi’ s My Girlfriend is Gumiho (MGIG) in Wed-Thursday slot and Micky Yoochun will fill Sunday-Tuesday slot.
Lee Seung Gi, a singer turned out to be a successful actor through hit drama Brilliant Legacy already established a solid 3 weeks rating for MGIG, scored average 14% rating.
Although MGIG still can not beat sensational drama, Baker King Kim Tak Goo, but MGIG’s achievement is quite good so far.
And then, this week SS501 singer Kim Hyun Joong’s Playful Kiss, which replace Road Number One start to debut.
With similar audience and genre also Kim Hyun Joong fan base, plus the success of it’s Japanese and Taiwanese version , Playful Kiss is definitely a serious threat to MGIG.
We thought that Playful Kiss will grab better rating than it’s predecessor, Road Number One who averaged at 5% rating. We predicted that Playful Kiss will score double digit rating.
So, King of Baking Kim Tak Goo, MGIG and Playful Kiss in the same broadcast time……what a time slot !
Meanwhile, TVXQ Micky Yoochun’s debut acting Sungkyunkwan Scandal (SS) had started with less hectic competition.
SS will compete with MBC’s Dong Yi and SBS’s Giant. In our opinion, as a light and trendy saeguk drama, SS will easily grab the teenage audience.

MBC’s newest drama Playful Kiss scored higher ratings in the re-runs of its first and second episodes.
The re-runs of the two episodes were broadcast on the 4th, and according to AGB Nielsen Media Research, it received ratings of 4.2% and 6.6%, higher than the original broadcast ratings of 3.5% and 3.7%.
The producers of Playful Kiss, Group Eight, stated:
It’s true that the drama’s ratings are affected by KBS 2TV’s Baker King Kim Tak Gu, that has its own ratings of 40%+. … The success will come after Kim Tak Gu ends on the 16th. … The re-runs’ ratings were higher than the ratings of the drama’s actual broadcast. On top of that, the online and overseas reaction weren’t bad as well. … It’s safe to expect the ratings to go up in the future.
Meanwhile, MBC is the only broadcaster that has yet to settle pay dispute with HanYeJo (Korean Broadcast, Movie, Performance, and Artists Labor Union over the non-payment controversy. Consequently, it appears that MBC’s dramas, including Playful Kiss, are being affected by the feud.
